Welcome,

WHAT THE NOMINATORS SAID

Michael has long been a champion of restoring Medway River to its former salmon fishing glory. Over the years, he created many initiatives to clean and reclaim pools and monitor water quality, even organizing the fundraising, acquisition and installation of two fish wheels to facilitate needed study of the local salmon in the river. He has worked hard to protect the distinct genetic imprint of the salmon species native to this river.

Michael has been able to engage with Acadia First Nation, the Nova Scotia Salmon Association, Dalhousie University, Acadia University, Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Medway River Salmon Association and many others in the effort to protect salmon in the river. His outreach to local businesses as well resulted in valuable fundraising for projects over the years. I really have not run across anyone who has done so much with so little. If anyone deserves an award, it’s him. It’s definitely a labour of love for Michael.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

It is impossible to do nothing. There are lots of issues and problems, but there are solutions if everyone works together.
