Welcome,

WILD Outside

Showing Young People the Joys of Environmental Stewardship, Community Service and Connecting with Nature

Dear CWF Education Program Volunteers, Participants, Parents and Partners,

As you may know, some of our CWF Education programs have been on pause for the past few months as we reconfigure to maximize our impact on conservation in Canada. We sincerely appreciate all the kind thoughts and messages you’ve shared, expressing your love for our programs and staff.

We are conducting an in-depth review of all our CWF program offerings, taking this time to consider their evolution and ensure their sustainability for the future. Our goal is to continue reaching as many Canadians as possible, of all ages, through nature-based education and conservation services in the best way possible.

We will keep you updated as we progress and will be sure to reach out should we need support or to let you know about new initiatives.

We sincerely hope you stay active outdoors and engaged in your community during this period. We look forward to being in touch and seeing you again soon.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at CWFEducation@cwf-fcf.org.

Thank you,

The Canadian Wildlife Federation Education Team

The Great Outdoors is Calling!

The future of conservation is in the hands of our young Canadians. Developing an appreciation for the natural world around you is the first step to ensuring a brighter future for biodiverity and wildlife. The Canadian Wildlife Federation's WILD Outside program is a fun and colaborative way for youth aged 13 to 18 to get outside and develop a profound connection with nature, meet other young people in their area and together they’ll embark on an incredible journey. They’ll participate in fulfilling conservation and community service projects as well as fun outdoor recreational activities. This program was specifically designed to inspire youth to explore and discover the natural world around them and learn to truly care and want to make a differnce.

What is WILD Outside?

WILD Outside is a national conservation-based community service and outdoor adventure prorgam designed for youth ages 13 to 18. The goal is to inspire participants to develop their passion for community service through conservation activities, build awareness of their natural environment and inspire a deeper appreciation for wildlife. The best way to do that is to get them out there to experience it themselves!

This program is open to everyone. No barriers – physical, economic, experience level or otherwise — should keep young people from nature. This prorgam encourages all young people who are interested to join.

By participating in this fun, educational and flexible program, youth across Canada will experience opportunities for personal growth while developing and encouraging their own “conservation ethic.” Learning alongside their peers and under the guidance of CWF facilitators, WILD Outside youth will enjoy opportunities for outdoor adventure and immersive nature experiences in a safe, structured environment. Connecting with peers, local partners, participants will help plan and deliver community-based conservation service projects. Participants will get to have a positive impact on their community and local wildlife, fulfill volunteer hours required by their school if needed, and enjoy the wonders of nature.

Summary:

  • Youth ages 13-18

  • Small groups of 10-20

  • Led by trained and committed community volunteers.

  • Focus is on learning through conservation action/service projects, as well as outdoor adventure/nature connectedness.

  • Recognition for service hours achieved will be given.

  • WO groups meet either once/twice a month or weekly year-round depending on the group.

  • WO youth participants/families are responsible for own transportation to WO activities within the local community.

A: We are always open to new opportunities to collaborate with the communities ad develop partnrships with organizations our program serves. Our program offers tremendous flexibility, and you can customize the WILD Outside activities to meet a specific need of your community or the goals of your organization. For example, maybe you are a local environmental group with a focus on a particular lake or wild area in your town, with WILD Outside, you could host an event to clean up the lake’s shoreline or remove invasive species from the wild area. Please reach out to our staff to discuss the possibility of a mutually beneficial relationship.
