| Rachel Hacking and CWF President Larry Leigh |
Rachel Hacking of Stratford, Ontario has been awarded the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s Youth Conservation Award.
Rachel’s advocacy for wildlife began when she heard that swans were dying due to improper feeding from tourists at the local pond. Her determination to right this wrong grew, and since 2002, Rachel has been on a mission to help the swans live a happy, healthy life. She now makes presentations on the value of correctly feeding wildlife through the development of Project Swan, and has biodegradable swan food bags for sale locally. Rachel demonstrates that just one person can truly make a difference; she has made a tremendous impact on the quality of wildlife in her community, and we are proud to recognize her as this year’s Youth Conservation Award Winner.
The Youth Conservation Award recognizes youth and/or youth groups and their leaders who have undertaken wildlife, habitat, and conservation projects or activities.
“CWF’s Award Program recognizes the excellent work for wildlife being carried out across our country,” said Wade Luzny, CWF Executive Vice-President. “We are thrilled with the depth and magnitude of all the nominations we receive. These awards are one way to pay tribute to what so many people have made their life work — to ensure our natural heritage remains for future generations.”
The CWF Conservation Achievement Awards comprises of six categories and honour an individual or an organization’s commitment to wildlife in Canada. Nominees include volunteers, professionals, youth and conservationists from all walks of life concerned with a host of environmental topics.
