Welcome,

Mario Viboux receives the 2009 Roderick Haig-Brown CWF Conservation Award

Mario Viboux and CWF President Larry Leigh

Mario Viboux of Verdun, Quebec is the recipient of the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s Roderick Haig-Brown Award.

Mario Viboux is being recognized with this award for his leadership in the sport fishing world and his work introducing a sport fishing program to youth in the province of Quebec. As the Director of the Point de Mire Youth Centre, he has worked towards instilling conservation awareness in the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts. He has also developed guides, publications, lectures and an educational DVD on his involvement in fly fishing. For 10 years Viboux has taken pride in teaching and guiding local youth about what it means to truly value Canadian wildlife and the resources we share across this country.

This award was established in 1985 to recognize CWF’s role in developing a strong national voice for the recreational use of Canada’s fishery resources. The Roderick Haig-Brown award honours one of Canada’s greatest outdoorsmen and writers on outdoor topics.

“CWF’s Award Program recognizes the excellent work for wildlife being carried out across our country,” said Wade Luzny, CWF Executive Vice-President.  “We are thrilled with the depth and magnitude of all the nominations we receive. These awards are one way to pay tribute to what so many people have made their life work — to ensure our natural heritage remains for future generations.”

The CWF Conservation Achievement Awards honour an individual or an organization’s commitment to wildlife in Canada.  Nominees include volunteers, professionals, youth and conservationists from all walks of life concerned with a host of environmental topics.
