Don Trethewey Receives 2009 CWF Roland Michener Conservation Award

Don Trethewey and CWF President Larry Leigh

Don Trethewey from Kamloops, British Columbia has been awarded the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s Roland Michener Conservation Award.

Trethewey has invested his life in conservation, wildlife and the outdoors. Starting out as a habitat assessment biologist, he grew to have a clear understanding of wildlife functions and requirements. From there he became a member of the Kamloops & District Fish & Game Association, the Shuswap regional BC Wildlife Federation president, and is currently the vice-president. As a lifelong angler and conservationist, Trethewey is one of the most active individuals concerning environmental issues in his region and an asset to Canadian wildlife.

The Roland Michener Conservation Award was established in 1978 by the Canadian Wildlife Federation as a tribute to the former governor general of Canada, the Right Honourable Roland Michener, an outstanding outdoorsperson and past honorary president of the Federation.

“CWF’s Award Program recognizes the excellent work for wildlife being carried out across our country,” said Wade Luzny, CWF Executive Vice-President.  “We are thrilled with the depth and magnitude of all the nominations we receive. These awards are one way to pay tribute to what so many people have made their life work — to ensure our natural heritage remains for future generations.”

The CWF Conservation Achievement Awards comprises of six categories and honour an individual or an organization’s commitment to wildlife in Canada.  Nominees include volunteers, professionals, youth and conservationists from all walks of life concerned with a host of environmental topics.
