Welcome,

Give Wildlife an Edge

If you want to be a hit with wildlife, plant edges on your property. They are a great example of biodiversity in action and attract an amazing array of beneficial creatures to your backyard.

An edge is where one type of habitat meets and blends with another. The two merging habitats form a distinct third habitat, and different wild species flourish in each of the three. Even in a tiny backyard, you can create an edge with the help of the "layered" look. Plant trees with vines twining up their trunks and shrubs below, with a final layer of grasses and wildflowers. Keep in mind that some vines could choke and kill trees over time.
