Q & A
Alex Saunders
- Hometown:
- Sainte-Anne de Bellevue, Quebec
- What conservation issue is closest to your heart?
- A combination of destruction of natural environments leading to endangered species and extinctions, and the lack of effort put into protecting animals around roadways.
- What are you hoping to learn from CCC?
- I am expecting to have fun, meet new people and expand my knowledge.
- Who/what inspired you to care about conservation?
- I have grown up around conservation and wildlife. Both my parents used to work with wild animals at a Canadian wildlife reservation. I also used to be a Scout and program facilitator at a camp, so we learned a lot about leave-no-trace and about not hurting the environment.
- If you could sit down with anyone in the world and have tea or coffee, who would it be? And why?
- The people I know I like to talk to I can talk to anytime. If I could sit down, talk to someone and make them see sense, then it would be political leaders who don’t know what they are doing and who create more damage than good.
My Experience So Far
Rambling Through the Rocky Mountains
Stage 1
The group dubbed “The Mountain Goats” will enjoy a challenging journey of self-discovery and exploration, hiking through the terrain of the spectacular Canadian Rocky Mountains. They will travel distances each day, sharing responsibilities including campsite management, cooking, navigation and group leadership as they follow the footsteps of inspired artists and adventurers, seekers and sages. This is more than learning the technical skills of backpacking – this is an adventure designed to illustrate why the wilderness environment is the best teacher.
