Make a Lasting Impact: Donate on #GivingTuesday
Canada’s wildlife is facing unprecedented threats.
From climate change to habitat loss, pollution, and homes being destroyed by the effects of climate change, brought on by human activity, the once-vibrant ecosystems that span our nation are now in rapid decline. Species that once thrived in abundance are now on the brink of extinction. From coast to coast, Canadian wildlife is disappearing—pushed to the edge by circumstances they cannot control.
And now, a postal service disruption poses a new challenge, slowing or even halting the mail-in donations we rely on to fund critical conservation programs.
The Facts Are Alarming:
- Canada is home to nearly 80,000 species of plants and animals, many of which are in decline.
- 20 per cent of Canadian species are at risk of extinction.
- Climate change has intensified natural disasters like wildfires, floods and droughts, making it harder for wildlife to survive and adapt.
They Cannot Speak for Themselves—But You Can
Every day, our wildlife must navigate shrinking habitats, polluted waterways and fragmented ecosystems. They cannot stand up for their right to exist as their homes are destroyed by human activity. But you have the power to speak for them. Your voice and support give them a fighting chance at survival.
When you contribute to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, you are ensuring that species like the Monarch Butterfly, North Atlantic Right Whale and Chinook Salmon have a future. Your donations help us conserve their habitats, and way of life.
Give a Matching Gift on #GivingTuesday!
This #GivingTuesday, we have an incredible opportunity: thanks to a generous donor, every donation made will be matched, up to $25,000.
The Canadian Wildlife Federation was honored this year to receive a very special legacy from a donor, who shall remain anonymous. This exceptional individual was a vibrant businesswoman from Toronto, who had grown up in Montreal and embodied the spirit of a true ‘city girl’ as she was known by her friends. She and her late husband had built a remarkable Canadian company, which enabled her, at death, to leave us this legacy.
Driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact on Canadians, she chose to leave a generous gift in her Will to our organization, recognizing the importance of our work in protecting pacific salmon, promoting sustainable forestry practices in BC, and conserving vital habitat areas. She was a devoted recipient of our Canadian Wildlife magazine. Her legacy continues to inspire us all to contribute towards a brighter future for Canada’s wildlife and habitat.
This means your support will go twice as far to protect these endangered species. But only if you act now.
Our Conservation Projects Make a Real Difference
With your help, we’ve made significant strides in conservation. But there’s still so much to be done. Here are some of our current projects:
- We’ve created pollinator-friendly habitats across Ontario and Quebec to support crucial species like bees and butterflies.
- We’re partnering with the fishing industry to introduce on-demand fishing gear in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, reducing entanglement risks for North Atlantic Right Whales.
- We’ve restored access to more than 3.3 million square metres of habitat at 26 sites throughout British Columbia, giving fish and other aquatic species a fighting chance.
- We work tirelessly with government and local communities to ensure that wildlife gets the legal protection it needs.
Conservation Efforts Are Working—But We Need Your Support
A new global analysis published in the April 2024 edition of Science confirms that two-thirds of conservation projects are making a measurable impact. These efforts are turning back the tide of extinction, preserving biodiversity and safeguarding the future of our planet. We are learning and improving each day, but none of this is possible without your support.
The situation is urgent, but it’s not too late.
Every day that we delay, we lose more of the biodiversity that sustains life on Earth. But with your help, we can reverse the damage, help our ecosystems and conserve the species that make Canada so unique.
Your Donation Makes It Possible
Without your support, none of this crucial work can continue. Your donations are the driving force behind every restoration project, every piece of on-demand fishing gear, and every pollinator pathway we create.
