Description:The field technician will assist with field research for a project studying Chinook salmon migration. This will include capturing and tracking Chinook salmon in the Yukon River near Whitehorse, YT. Duties may include constructing and maintaining field equipment, and assisting with public events and education programs. The goals of the research project are to increase our knowledge of where salmon spawn throughout the Yukon River near Whitehorse and provide critical information on the effectiveness of passage structures at dams on the Yukon River. By working with local First Nations governments and industry the project will develop strong partnerships that will help make future recovery actions possible.

Those completing their field learning experiences working with the Kenauk Institute are expected to juggle a variety of responsibilities including contributing to multiple research projects, helping organize day-to-day operations, as well as contributing to our educational programs. The field experience gained during this internship is invaluable and will help individuals narrow down their scientific/research interests, as well as help them pursue their academic and career goals.

This broad position will assist in developing and delivering programs and projects that foster a lifelong interest in science though relevant, meaningful and hands-on activities. Assist a team of technicians and research scientists to conduct a diverse set of confidential research contracts for commercial, government and university sponsors. Assist in informing the public about species and conduct tours in our public aquarium. The candidate will also work closely within the Education department assisting in field study programs.
