The Canadian Conservation Corps

The Pack

Group 6

The Canadian Conservation Corps is an ongoing series of three-part programs designed for Canadian youth that focus on service, adventure and reflection. Over the course of this nine-month experience, individual groups of Corps members will have the opportunity to learn about conservation while being deeply engaged in our natural and cultural heritage.

The Algonquin Adventure

Stage 1

Group 6 CCC members will be releasing their inner Canadians during a winter trip through Ontario’s Algonquin Provincial Park. The trip will build their experience over the 10 days. They will start with five days of traditional snowshoeing travel and warm camping. They will have the opportunity to camp in the cold as part of a mid-trip challenge so they are experiencing a winter expedition in a variety of ways. The final five days will feature a combination of dogsledding and snowshoeing where they will be separate for portions of the day, refining their skills in each area and coming together at the end of each day.

Knowledge-Sharing in their Communities

Stage 3

This is where participants put their ideas in motion in the hope of making Canada a better place. In their home communities, they deliver a service project designed to inspire other youth ages 15 to 30 to get involved. It’s time to “pay it forward.”

JULIEN COSSETTE

Shawinigan-Sud, QC

Working in concert with the Great Divide Trail Association, chairing their trail stewardship committee and organizing 14 multi-day trail building trips with over 125 volunteers, completing a total of 60 days of trail work in the Canadian Rockies.

“I did not grow up as a naturalist. I remember admiring my coworkers’ knowledge of the flora and fauna of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. My writing about the experience concluded plainly but evocatively: “The more I notice, the more I want to learn. The more I want to learn, the more I notice.” I’m thankful for the CCC for sending me down this amazing journey of discovery.“
