Paddle to the Sea

Group 11

The Canadian Conservation Corps is an ongoing series of three-part programs designed for Canadian youth that focus on service, adventure and reflection. Over the course of this nine-month experience, individual groups of Corps members will have the opportunity to learn about conservation while being deeply engaged in our natural and cultural heritage.

Putting the Fun in Fundy

Stage 1

For Group 11 CCC members, the adventure begins in New Brunswick, where members set off for a paddling adventure on the Bay of Fundy. There they will practice their paddling and wilderness camp skills before setting off to kayak from Back Bay to Oak Bay, through Passamaquoddy Bay via the lower St. Croix River. Along the way the team will have the opportunity to be awe-struck by the scenery while enjoying all that Fundy has to offer.

The group is in the field experiencing conservation hands-on! From mucking for turtles and fishing for eels to creating habitat for bats, these participants see what it takes to help Canada’s wildlife.

Knowledge-Sharing in their Communities

Stage 3

This is where participants put their ideas in motion in the hope of making Canada a better place. In their home communities, they deliver a service project designed to inspire other youth ages 15 to 30 to get involved. It’s time to “pay it forward.”

Served as Acadia University’s first Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Campus Coordinator, hosting Acadia’s first SDG week featuring conservation projects, social media hope campaign, a garbage clean-up and a clothing swap to promote eco-friendly consumption.

“This was one of the best experiences of my life. Everyone had a great sense of humour about the weather, and the Bay of Fundy is awe-inspiring. This trip has increased my love for the earth despite the challenges we experienced. I believe this shows how much getting out into nature really does change one’s perspective and opens one up to caring, connecting and taking action on behalf of the earth.“
