Étape 1: Randonnée dans les Rocheuses

Ce groupe du CCC a pris part à une expédition hivernale de randonnée et de camping dans les Rocheuses canadiennes de 14 jours.

Étape 2 : Apprentissage de la
conservation sur le terrain

Lors de l’Étape 2, les membres des Équipe Chinook passeront trois mois avec des partenaires en conservation partout au Canada, dans le cadre de placements individuels leur permettant d’acquérir une expérience sur le terrain.

Assiniboine Park Zoo is passionate about conservation. Their initiatives are focused in three areas: species conservation, habitat conservation and resource conservation. Their goal is to educate zoo visitors and the community through conservation action and education and inspire them to value wild things and wild places. This, to ultimately help conserve animals and their habitats.

Two CCC participants are taking part in a variety of conservation activities with Assiniboine Park Zoo, including assisting with special research, organizing the Conservation and Research library, collecting and entering data, and more, all while learning more about species and habitat conservation.

Canadian Wildlife Federation — International Union for Conservation of Nature

Kanata, ON

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a membership Union composed of both government and civil society organisations. It provides public, private and non-governmental organizations with the knowledge and tools that enable human progress, economic development and nature conservation to take place together.

A CCC participant is taking part in a placement to assist with the IUCN’s #NatureForAll campaign with the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Nature for All is founded on the knowledge that the more people experience and connect with nature, the more support and action there is for nature conservation. The position assists in designing and executing the Nature for All youth champions initiative and summit held in June 2020 in Marseilles, France.

Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation

The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation is a non-profit organization that promotes conservation through policies, educational programs for natural resource management, fishing, trapping, hunting, shooting sports and wildlife-oriented activities. Its goal is to enhance habitat for wildlife.

Two CCC participants are participating in a variety of conservation activities with SWF, including research with Saskatchewan Polytechnic (fish), assisting with the National Archery in the Schools Program, helping out with spring fish spawning camp, working on education materials, running the Hannin Creek Conservation Camp, and other opportunities as they arise.

Clean Foundation

Dartmouth, NS

Clean Foundation is an organization that helps homes be more energy efficient, restores watersheds, offers green job internships, engages youth on the environment, promotes sustainable transportation, helps communities adapt to climate change, and partners with First Nations on climate action in the unceded territories of the Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik.

Two CCC participants are partnering with Clean Foundation to conduct monitoring and assessment of soil, hydrology and vegetative systems of tidal wetlands, as well as to conduct general assessments of select wetlands along the Northumberland Strait using a wetland assessment tool. This inventory of wetland data will be shared with other groups and individuals who are interested in exploring similar projects.

Lake Huron Stewardship Council & Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation

Goderich, ON

These two non-profit organizations promote responsible resource use and environmental protection in Lake Huron and Huron County. This, through protecting and restoring Lake Huron's coastal environment through education, restoration and research projects. The organizations conduct ecological monitoring, manage invasive species and other environmental threats, and work with community members to improve the natural environment.

Two CCC participants are partaking in conservation activities, including shoreline cleanups, developing a Coastal Action Plan for Lake Huron, managing invasive species and restoring coastal wetlands and sand dunes. They deliver presentations to youth groups, municipalities and cottagers’ associations, and assist with general communications, administrative work and data management.
Stewardship Council Coastal Conservation

Association forestière des deux rives

Québec City, QC

Association forestière des deux rives (AF2R) is an organization that focuses on forest conservation, with education on tree biodiversity and sustainable resource management. It strives to maintain biodiversity and thriving natural spaces for the benefit and wellbeing of the community.

A CCC participant is collaborating with the organization to assist with the community greening program, coordinate planting projects, create and manage georeferenced tree databases, and conduct georeferencing and maintenance.
