On a sunny day — a good omen for the upcoming solar panels — CWF and Ottawa Solar Power take a look at the federation's bare rooftop — a prime location for 10 shiny, new panels.
![]() An array of solar panels creates a photovoltaic bank of energy for CWF's use. The energy created by these panels will displace more than two tonnes of greenhouse gases. |
![]() An Ottawa solar technician lays the groundwork for CWF's solar panels. As part of its climate change program, CWF has committed to reduce its carbon footprint. |

![]() Workers begin the installation. CWF is the first official business in the Ottawa area to implement this hybrid system called a solar grid-tie, where the electricity generated by PV cells can be fed into the municipal grid instead of batteries. At night or on cloudy days, electricity can then be drawn from the grid. |
![]() The solar panels will each produce eight to 10 kilowatt hours (KW-H) per day — enough energy to supplement office equipment and lighting — and will eliminate more than two tonnes of carbon emissions per year. |
