- What conservation issue is closest to your heart?
- I’ve found the preservation of our water ecosystems seems to pique my interest. Living and working on an island in Algonquin Park the past five summers has kept me surrounded by and attached to the waters here. Everything from overfishing to dumping of waste and plastics into our oceans is having serious impact. Unlike deforestation, it can be harder to see the results of the damage we do to waters.
- What are you hoping to learn from CCC?
- I expect to learn a lot about myself and the efforts being made on the frontline of conservation in Canada in several different contexts. I’m also getting to see what my father saw in his own youth which is a personal goal that will be amazing to cross off.
- Who/what inspired you to care about conservation?
- While I’ve always felt conservation is an important issue, it is politics over the past two or three that has changed my outlook. I’ve seen precious little progress we’ve made on this issue.
- If you could sit down with anyone in the world and have tea or coffee, who would it be? And why?
- I’d like to sit down with a political leader like Barak Obama or Justin Trudeau. I would speak with them about the challenges of leading at that level and the difficulties of enacting change while still trying to appeal to a broad range of groups, concerns, and interests.
