After a lick of paint, your living room is a glorious shade of Kelly green. Wonderful! But it seems you overestimated the amount of paint you’d need for the room. What do you do with the rest?
a. Whatever you do, don’t dump it down the drain! The chemicals in the paint will find their way into the waterways in your area. Instead, drop leftover cans of paint at your local household hazardous waste collection centre, where they’ll be disposed of properly.
b. Sounds fabulous! When you start on the bathroom, make sure you squeeze excess paint from your brushes or rollers on newspaper before you go ahead and rinse your tools. You’ll ensure less paint drips down your drains and into the waterways in your area. And of course, if there’s any paint left over, drop off the cans at your local household hazardous waste collection centre.
c. Nicely done! By dropping off excess paint at your local household hazardous waste collection centre, you can rest assured that they’ll dispose of the paint properly, meaning fewer chemicals will enter the waterways in your area.
