Falling into Autumn
It’s hard to believe that autumn is already here. The strange weather that hit our country made it seem like we hardly had a summer at all. I guess we’ll hope for a picture perfect fall season instead. Sunny days, cool nights and brilliant colours would be nice.
If you find the onset of cool weather depressing, we’re hoping to cheer you up with our latest features. Not only does our new Wild About Gardening site have a fresh look, but we bring new articles each season for your reading pleasure.
Start by checking out our feature plant – the serviceberry. Not only are these trees and shrubs great for wildlife, but they are a beautiful addition to any garden. Their beautiful flowers in spring, summer fruit and vibrant fall colour add year round interest. Plus, because of their limited size they are a great choice for even the smallest gardens.
Autumn can be wonderful for spending time at the cottage. With the number of people dying down, some peace and quiet will give you a better experience of the local wildlife. If you can’t get to a cottage or you are interested in learning how you can improve your shoreline property, visit our feature garden – a beautiful shoreline property near Algonquin Park in Ontario.
Our feature creature this season will introduce you to the smooth green snake. Though fairly widespread, its effective camouflage means that this may be the only way you get to spot this very beneficial reptile.
Fall is a great time to visit nurseries. This season we profile a wonderful nursery in the Nanaimo area of British Columbia. Started as a plant rescue and restoration effort, its great success lead to the birth of the Natural Abundance Native Plant Nursery.
So check out our wonderful new look and articles and then get outside and enjoy the show that nature has put together.
