The Canadian Wildlife Federation is eleven weeks, six provinces and over 6,800 km into its National Bike for Wildlife trek and is now coming through the Maritimes. CWF Athlete Ambassador, Angella Goran, began her cycle across Canada from Victoria, B.C. to Halifax, N.S. on August 14th with the goal to raise awareness about wildlife conservation, connect Canadians with nature and share the importance of getting outdoors.
To date Angella has engaged schools, youth’s camps and over 25 community and conservation organizations. “Being outside can inspire all of us,” Goran says. “Whether your passion is cycling, walking, swimming or bird-watching, experiencing our natural world is an incredible opportunity as well as a gift."
An enthusiasm for the great outdoors is precisely what Goran hopes to instil in each and every Canadian she meets along the journey. The ride’s Pledge for Wildlife encourages individuals to show their support for wildlife conservation. Students, classrooms and youth are encouraged to bike, walk or do community clean-up while raising awareness for CWF. Classes and youth groups who pledge will automatically be entered to win a $1000 grant amongst other great prizes. Learn more at BikeForWildlife.ca/schools.
During her time in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, Angella will continue to highlight CWF’s research and locally funded projects. Angella will be speaking at local schools, visiting community groups and more. Her cross-country bike ride will officially end at 12:00pm on October 30th at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, culminating with an official bike dip in the Atlantic Ocean. Following Angella’s arrival, there will be a short media presentation from CWF where an important new national conservation initiative will be announced.
Angella is available for media interviews along her travels and after the media announcement on October 30th.
