We will let you know shortly if you are one of the lucky recipients of a free bat box*.
You might be wondering: “How will my bat box help bats?” Creating safe spots for all types of bats to nest in is one small thing humans can do to keep them alive and well. Bats need our protection from a variety of threats, including:
- white-nose syndrome (WNS);
- wind turbines; and
- habitat loss.
Bat boxes come in especially handy during the times of year that bats are not hibernating. In return for a cosy bat box to hang out in, bats help to control insect populations and stay out of our houses.
If you are no longer able to install and monitor a bat box of your own, consider making a donation. Your contribution will be put towards our best efforts to help Canada’s bats survive and thrive.
Brush up on your knowledge of bats and the threats they are facing right now.
*Remember: we are giving away 300 bat boxes – one per group across the country while quantities last. If we surpass our allotment, we will be unable to send you a free bat box, but we’d still love your help, and encourage you to build your own bat box or buy a bat box kit from our CWF store
